Owls recorded at 2am in Parque Nacional Altos de Campana (~700m, moist, deciduous forest) Campana owl 1, Campana owl 2, Campana owl 3.
Yellow-browed Shrike-Vireo? Mid-afternoon east of Lago Bayano, eastern Panamá Province. This bird remained far away atop a large tree (thus the poor recording). It is a great shame I couldn't get a closer to it to get a look as we were in the potential overlap zone of the Green Shrike-Vireo and Yellow-browed Shrike-Vireo. My experience in central Panamá with the GSV is that they call with 3 notes, however I have heard recording from neighbouring Costa Rica that have 4. The only recording I have of a YBSV is from eastern Darien Province about 150km east of this location, and it was of a rapid 4 note call.
Black-crowned Antpitta? This bird was calling from the undergrowth of a very moist, lowland forest on the Atlantic slope of Coclé province. We had just seen Black-crowned Antpitta close by so I am wondering if this is call given in close proximity to the nest (it is not entirely unlike the alarm call I have recorded elsewhere).
This bird was calling from the canopy along Pipeline Road (Parque Nacional Soberania). I have no idea what it could be.
Early morning groaning along Pipeline Road (Parque Nacional Soberania). This was the only time I have ever heard this sound in several months of daily trips down the road, and it was deafeningly loud. Is it a large frog perhaps?
